Climb Mount Meru

MOUNT MERU CLIMB/TREK - 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS
ROUTE ITINERARY AND DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - MIRIAKAMBA HUT 8,500 ft., 4-6 Hours

After early breakfast, depart the lodge and drive to the Momella main gate where you sign in and leave thereafter. An armed ranger will accompany the party throughout the trip. This is just a mandatory, precautionary measure for protection from dangerous wild animals. Trekking starts from the gate 4,500 ft and we will picnic lunch along the trail. On arrival at the hut, tea and a snack will be served and we will rest the last few hours before dinner at 6:30 pm.

Day 2 - SADDLE HUT 11,700ft, 3-4 Hours

After breakfast we depart for Saddle hut leaving behind the mountain forest and getting into beautiful heather vegetation. We will lunch after arrival at the hut, take a siesta and later hike to little Meru peak 12,400 ft. 11/2 hours there and back. If weather is cooperative, excellent views of the peaks of both Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru, plus lower surrounding areas, can be seen from the hut. After dinner we will retire to bed early in preparation for the summit assault departing early morning at 3:30 am.

Day 3 - SUMMIT DAY 16,000 ft. / MIRIAKAMBA HUT 8,500ft, 12-13 Hours

Rise at 2:00 am and leave thereafter for the summit. It takes 6 hours to reach the summit and 3 hours to get back to Saddle hut. On the way to the summit we'll watch the beautiful sunrise in the East where the giant Kili comes into view above the clouds. After reaching the summit a wonderful, well deserved lunch will be served. We'll take a little rest before descending 3-4 hours from Saddle hut to Miriakamba hut for the night.

Day 4- OUT AND BACK TO LODGE, 2-3 Hours

Breakfast and depart Miriakamba hut 8,500 ft for Momella main gate and sign out. After picnic lunch and farewells and gratitude's to guides, cooks and porters from the gate, drive back to lodge for dinner, certificate presentations and congratulations.
